As most of you know, I
work in a variety of mediums, often at the same time, which precisely describes
the work currently taking place in the studio
A wonderful thing about
the mind is that, unlike an object, it can move in all directions at the same
time. Well – at least that’s what
my mind feels like it has been doing recently, moving forward, backward, and
sideways.
I have started working
on a large acrylic landscape, and after a nine-month hiatus from this medium I
find myself thinking and planning the work with different expectations, wanting
to improve upon all the work that came before. I imagine that I am seeing things differently. If last year’s paintings were good, this
years should be better. Moving
forward in the process as well as the vision.

At the same time, I
will be working on an architectural portrait in watercolor, and my goal is to
render the work in manner reflecting the highest quality I have already
established for myself in this genre.
I am not looking for something new. Moving sideways over familiar well traveled ground.

And while the above
work is going on, I continue working on the simple pen and ink drawings, so
reminiscent of the past, going back to old haunts for inspiring subject matter. Moving backwards, trying to recapture
some of the spirit and excitement that motivated my art thirty years ago.

The carts give me a great deal of flexibility in adjusting to the nature and size of the artwork.
