A Barn for Sunday morning #125

This morning's barn was part of a series of 12x48" canvases I painted about 7 or 8 years ago.   I have always enjoyed working in that size; it lends itself to broad, sweeping landscapes.

Acrylic  12x48

In retrospect, I think the painting is greatly improved by cropping out the extreme left, which only detracts from the rest of the painting.

The once grand and elegant Irving Cobb Hotel (now apartments) on Paducah's Broadway, is now sitting on my easel.

Rendered primarily in watercolor, with s bit of ink and acrylic, it measures 30x22".

First Snow #123

This painting was completed on a hot summer day, which of course means absolutely nothing.

This painting was inspired by a photo taken somewhere in south eastern Ohio in the early 1990's.

At least it is in this Sunday's Barn of the Week, an acrylic on 24x30 gallery wrapped canvas.

Ode to a Dog Show

Patience and young Swede William
This Labor Day Weekend I joined Patience and our waggle of whippets on the maiden trip in our motor home to the dog shows in Amana, Iowa.  The experience reminded me of something I wrote after my last dog show - the Eastern Specialties in Atlanta GA in 2005.

Ode to a Dog Show

Here I sit, pen in hand
Somewhere in Atlanta land

Looking at this page with dread
Just as empty as my head

Dogs and people prancing ‘round
One’s a canine, one’s a clown

All their faces etched with hope
Until they hear the judge’s “nope”

Which quickly sends them on their way
…but tomorrow is another day, and

all the nopes can’t dash the hopes
