The Last Sunday Barn

The last Sunday of the year is the perfect way to end the Sunday Barns.  Today's offering is one of my rare oil paintings.  I don't know why I don't use this medium more often; I enjoy working with oils every time I do. Who knows - maybe this will be the year for oils.

SUNDAY BARN # 130

I have misplaced my handwritten list of barns that I've posted and I am too lazy to go scrolling through all of the posts.  So, today's barn may be a repeat, but that's ok because it is one of my favorites.  It measures only 8x8" and is no longer available.

I think it's time for some more barn paintings.

SUNDAY BARN #128

I'm reaching back quite a few years for today's barn, tucked behind a rather classic farm house.  The farm is on Rt. 301 between Wilmington and Middletown Delaware in a rural area that is slowly being devoured by urban crawl.

SUNDAY BARN #127 SOMEWHERE IN MCCRACKEN COUNTY

From Tuscany to McCracken County KY in less than 24 hours.  This is the last of the four recent watercolors of western KY barns.

SUNDAY BARN TIME #126 (I think)

It's not Sunday morning until I post the barn.  This weeks barn is from a recent series of barns from west Kentucky.  I try to keep an accurate record of the location of the barns I photograph, but in spite of my efforts I invariably find one or more barns where the location has been "lost".  Today's barn is somewhere in Graves Co.

A Barn for Sunday morning #125

This morning's barn was part of a series of 12x48" canvases I painted about 7 or 8 years ago.   I have always enjoyed working in that size; it lends itself to broad, sweeping landscapes.

In retrospect, I think the painting is greatly improved by cropping out the extreme left, which only detracts from the rest of the painting.

This painting was completed on a hot summer day, which of course means absolutely nothing.

STORM FRONT a.k.a. CRAZY SKY

This painting is in my photo file twice, once as Crazy Sky, and again as Storm Front.  Coming up with titles for my paintings is becoming a real chore.

SUNDAY BARN #118

Several weeks ago I picked up the pencil instead of the paint brush and the result was one more rendering of this iconic barn somewhere in Livingston County.  I've lost track of the number of times I've painted and drawn this structure that never ceased to fascinate me.

You can see this barn if you are driving along Rt 121 in Graves county KY.  The green "dripping" down the sides is actually the remnants of of a shingle or paper covering; I could not get close enough to determine which.

SUNDAY BARN #109

It's Sunday, and it seems like only  a week ago I posted a Sunday Barn.  Today's barn is from a series of watercolors of barns in western KY, and can be found on route 339 in Melber KY in Graves county.
