ROUTINES

This time of the year I walk my dogs early, usually around 7:30 AM, give or take 15 minutes, and every morning I see a new neighbor sitting on his porch with coffee and newspaper. We have never formally met but have exchanged pleasantries every morning for the past 2 months. This morning he chided me - in a quite friendly manner - about my routine, and how he avoids them. I thought he was kidding, but when I pointed out that sitting on his porch every morning certainly was a routine he looked surprised; he never thought of it that way. He thanked me for my honesty as we both laughed. About 15 minutes later, walking along the river park, I saw him approach me on his bike. He passed by and told me he was breaking out of his routine.

I have several routines, none of which I am inclined to surrender: I usually get up about one hour before Patience and the dogs and spend that quiet time on the computer (e mail, news, etc.) and writing in my journal: I eat lunch every day at noon, you can almost set your clock on that: At 5 PM, weather permitting, I am sitting on our front porch with a glass of wine and some reading material: And if I’m cooking, it is almost always with a glass of wine at hand.

Sadly, I also have some routines (not very many!) that I would love to abandon, but that is another story.

How about you?

oh haha about patiences routine. I don't think there is anything wrong with routines. I probably need a few.

We all have our routines...I like the wine routine especially, so similar to my own. Of all my doctor's prescriptions, red wine twice a day is my favorite! Just looking out for my heart, of course.

Routine? What is routine? NOT!

My new routine is an early 4am wake up. Too much on my mind with packing and all.
I usually am up before everyone else in the house and love that time alone to check in with friends on the 'love lines'.
Routine has been ever forward in my mind because one of our cats is flipping out(or I should say, "peeing out")over our new routine of packing up the house. Yesterday I was at wits end (having been woken up by hearing her pee in my closet). So, after much internet research I am going to...
A...try not to bungee her to the litter box.
B...use some Rescue Remedy (why I didn't think of that weeks ago, I don't know!)
C...get some pheremone plug ins at Petsmart.
It's all routine.

I think dogs have it right...because they love routine! A little routine seems to clear the mind clutter away so we can go about our day.

I have the glass of wine routine as well...except mine is at 6:00pm!

William--
I continue to enjoy your artwork and blog site. Thanks for all of your comments on my site. Routines have been a part of me since I was little. Waking early,is one of my major habits. In summer, it's a shame to stay in bed when it's so nice outside. My routines are such a part of me that when I cannot do my normal things I feel out of sorts. One routine I especially like is happy hour in the evening. Beer, gin and tonics or wine are my vices. Unlike you, I do not cook much except for barbecuing--but I enjoy my favorite adult beverage when I do that. Really like your blog, your art and your commentaries.

I'm big on routines, but at the moment my life is all crazy. Can't wait to get back to my routines...
